Get to know: Loxxe
Ahead of her debut release with us, Loxxe was kind enough to give us some time to answer some questions
Hey Laura, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey so far?
I’ve been a music enthusiast for as long as I can remember. I played piano for about six years growing up, then spent a few years in my mid-20s playing bass in a hard-rock/punky band while working at a music store. My roots were mostly in alternative and guitar-driven music, but that shifted after I moved to Japan. I was living near Osaka and got exposed to proper underground raves for the first time. Up until then, I only really knew mainstream electronic music.
I started DJing about nine years ago and have been producing for around six and a half years now. I quit drinking and party substances about four years ago, which really sharpened my focus and boosted my creative output.
This year’s been a big step forward in terms of releasing music. I won a Limousine Dream contest and had a track released on their Nug-Net compilation, dropped my debut EP on Belters4U, another on Resonance Spectrum, and now this one on Mantissa! It’s been a really rewarding year, and I feel like things are starting to click both creatively and personally.

Can you talk to us about the process for both the inspiration and making of both Plains of Passage and Avinguda Diagonal?
Plains of Passage began around November 2023, while I was reading Jean Auel’s Clan of the Cave Bear series. I was on the fourth book, Plains of Passage, as I was refining the track, and the imagery really influenced how the track evolved. I kept picturing vast prehistoric landscapes, wild movement, and that feeling of freedom across open plains.
Avinguda Diagonal came together under totally different circumstances. I was in Barcelona when the main idea struck, sketching it quickly on the Ableton Note app while staying in an Airbnb on the street the track is named after. I’ve collected loads of sketches from different places I’ve been, but this was one of the few that I saw all the way through to completion.

Who is the most inspirational artist of 2025 for you?
Locally, in terms of Toronto producers, I’d say Dan Only really stands out. He runs his own label, Backbreaks Records, and he’s such a versatile, knowledgeable producer. I really admire that, because one of my long-term goals is to branch out more myself. I’d like to explore different corners of electronic music while still keeping a thread that feels like me. Starting a label is also a long-term, percolating goal of mine.

What mix have you found yourself returning to on the regs this year?
It’s been a pretty hectic year, so I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to sit down for long stretches and listen to sets and mixes. But one I always come back to is Cooper Saver’s set from Pitch Festival in Victoria, Australia in 2020. It’s one of those rare sets where I genuinely love every single track and the way it builds. I’ve played with him a couple of times as well- he’s such a phenomenal DJ and producer.

Whats on the horizon in terms of plans for 2026?
For the first half of 2026, I’ll be based in Melbourne, which I’m really looking forward to. I just want to immerse myself in the scene there, meet people, go out, play, and soak up inspiration for my own music.
I’m also planning to spend part of the summer in Europe, connecting with people there and playing some shows while I’m travelling. More than anything, I just want to keep putting myself in new environments, staying inspired, and letting those experiences shape whatever comes next!
