Mantissa Mix 375: DJ Split [10 Years of Mantissa - Mix 1/4]
10 years of Mantissa! It’s cliché, but it really is crazy how time flies…We’ll be celebrating with 4 special mixes over the next month. First up is an hour of jackin’ house from the talented, DJ Split
“I’m really happy to be part of the anniversary series with this mix, which is all about pure fun — Chicago house energy, jack all over, and a few of my own unreleased cuts.
Thanks so much for having me!”
We started Mantissa pretty much 10 years ago as a last attempt to squeeze something memorable out of the university experience. Tom and I [James] met by chance on a course of 200+ people due to sharing surnames beginning with the letter ‘A’.
We were hanging out playing FIFA when Tom put on a mix of his, a classic move from any budding DJ. I still distinctly remember hearing the likes of Objekt’s “Cactus”, Tensnake’s “Coma Cat”, Eliphino’s “More Than Me”, sounds I was completely unfamiliar with and from then I was hooked.
It took us nearly 3 years to follow through with creating the radio show for University Radio Bath that we had discussed many times before, but that show became a way for us to keep in touch with mates from school who were now based around the country, and also a way to make new ones.
We left that bubble 9 years ago, but in some ways little has changed with Mantissa. Mantissa and music in general is still a way for us to connect with up-and-coming, and established artists from around the world - whether that be through our mix series, label, interviews and reviews on our website, or the platform that started it all for us, radio. Shout-out to Josh on URB, Sean on 10Twenty Radio, Peter on Resonance Extra, and Kit and Toby on Voices Radio for providing us with a platform to share our favourite music.
Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to Mantissa over the last 10 years. There are far too many to name, but you know who you are. We’ve been given the pleasure of meeting many talented artists. Hopefully, we get the chance to meet many more in the coming years. We would not be able to keep this going without you.
Love, James, Tom, Ollie, Timo
